1.6 billion euros in GDPR fines in 2022 were issued by the EU authorities

1.64 billion euros in fines since January 28th, 2022 were issued by the European supervisory authorities, according to DLA Piper’s latest annual General Data Protection Regulation Fines and Data Breach Survey. This registers a 50% increase over the past year, with five of the top ten fines coming from Ireland’s Data Protection Commission. Ross McKean, the U.K. Data Protection and Cybersecurity Group Chair observes “There has been a spate of Irish Data Protection Commission fines arising from behavioural advertising practices.”.
