According to Meta, AI is more effective against disinformation than in influencing elections

During the event ‘Can democracy survive the pace of technology?’, organised by Chatham House, Nick Clegg, president of international affairs at Meta (parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp), pointed out that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has played a much more impactful role in combating disinformation than in influencing elections. According to Clegg, AI algorithms have been essential in removing harmful content, reducing hate speech by more than 50 per cent in recent years and automatically eliminating 99.8 per cent of content linked to Islamic State before reports. He emphasised that although there is pressure to control political content, Meta avoids interfering in candidates' speeches.
