Apple Pulls Advanced Data Protection in the UK

Apple has decided to remove its most secure iCloud encryption tool (ADP) for UK users following a government request that would compromise user privacy. Instead of creating a backdoor into users’ data — which even Apple can’t access under ADP — the company chose to halt access to the tool entirely in the UK.

This marks a significant shift in the global conversation about privacy, data protection, and government surveillance, with experts warning it could set a dangerous precedent.

What does this mean for you?If you’re in the UK and hadn’t activated ADP, your iCloud will continue with standard encryption — which Apple can access if required by law enforcement. For those who had it enabled, access will be revoked at a later date.
