Big GDPR fines are affecting companies

Since 2018, the year in which the application of the GDPR began, more than 650 fines were imposed for GDPR violations, in a total of more than 280 million euros.

The highest fine so far was imposed on Amazon recently around €746 million.

Most fines fall under the category of "insufficient legal basis for data processing". This legal requirement is responsible for both the greater climate applied and the higher amount of fines applied so far.

Although the average fine levied by Spanish organizations can be quite low, just over €118,000, Spain was considered the country with the highest number of fines (273).
