German police are using COVID-19 tracking data to identify witnesses

GB News reports that police in Germany have been using COVID-19 tracking data to identify witnesses for their investigation and are being criticized for that. In order to gather information on a death at a local restaurant, police used data from the Luca application, an app that registers individuals’ time at a certain location, their address, name and phone number, getting access to the information of 21 people who may have been witnesses to that certain death. These investigators have then apologised to the individuals investigated.
