Google AI is being investigated by the Irish Data Protection Regulator

Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) has launched a cross-border inquiry into Google’s compliance with GDPR in its AI model, Pathways Language Model 2 (PaLM 2). As the lead EU regulator for Google, the DPC is assessing if a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) was required under GDPR Article 35, given the potential high risk to individuals’ rights and freedoms. Cross-border cases like this are critical to ensuring privacy safeguards for EU citizens, especially with emerging technologies.
