The National Data Protection Commission (CNPD) reported a significant increase in investigation procedures, with an average of five procedures opened per day in 2023. This year, 90 fines were imposed, totalling half a million euros, the highest amount since 2018. The main causes of complaints include video surveillance systems and unsolicited electronic communications, also known as ‘spam’. In addition, the Ombudsman received several requests related to personal data and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) during the past year.
