Security VS Privacy: Hugo Costeira Questions GDPR and Huawei on the Futuro do Futuro Podcast

In the Futuro do Futuro podcast, Hugo Costeira, president of the Internal Security Observatory, questions whether the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) should prevail in national security situations. Costeira argues that the GDPR could limit the effectiveness of preventing terrorist attacks and criticises the restrictions on the use of metadata in criminal investigations, saying that the current legal process in Portugal is ‘tragic and imbecilic’.

In addition, Costeira discusses Huawei's control over 5G networks, questioning whether the exclusion of its equipment was justified solely for security reasons based on the manufacturer's origin.
