TikTok Under Scrutiny: DPC Submits Draft Decision on EU Data Transfers

The Irish Data Protection Commission has taken a major step in its GDPR investigation into TikTok, submitting a draft decision on the platform's data transfers from the EU/EEA to China. This marks an important moment in a probe that began in September 2021, focusing on whether TikTok is:

• Complying with GDPR requirements around international data transfers

• Being transparent with users about how and where their personal data is shared

As lead supervisory authority, Ireland’s DPC sent the draft decision to other EU/EEA data protection bodies under Article 60 of the GDPR, opening the door for feedback and potential objections over the next month. Privacy in a global digital economy is more important than ever — and regulators are watching.
