Uber fined millions for violating data protection in Europe

The Dutch data protection authority has fined Uber 290 million euros for transferring sensitive data from European drivers to servers in the US without proper legal protections, constituting a ‘serious violation’ of the GDPR. The company contests the decision, saying it followed European standards and plans to appeal, keeping the fine suspended until a final decision is made. This is the third data protection incident involving Uber in the last five years.
