Use of bodycams by the police is approved by the parliament

The law proposed by the government which uses video surveillance by security forces was approved Friday, November 19th, by the Assembly of the Portuguese Republic. The decree will proceed to Belém, so that it can be issued by the President of the Republic. According to the proposed law, which was amended numerous times due to strong criticism from the National Data Protection Commission, agents will be required to turn on the "bodycam" fixed to their uniform "when the use of law enforcement against any citizen occurs. or the use of any coercive means, firearms”. It will then be prohibited "the permanent or indiscriminate record of facts that have no evidential relevance". The "control of the movement of people at the external borders" and the "traffic and security of people, animals and goods on the road" and the "support for the operational activity of security forces and services in complex operations" are some of the reasons that lead to the use of video surveillance that will now be provided for in the law.
